The style is very retro.  The colors and the extension of the cross bars as well as the ligature are very fun and funky.  I do not think the logo and style are true to the store, it is a department store with traditional things such as polo.  The style kind of reminds me of the old diners, it is very clean and i like the san serif font it is pretty unique, i haven't really seen anything else like it around and i appreciate the retro feel and reference.

I agree the color scheme/ turquoise is not one that has been used in many movements except for the retro/diner feel.

yeah i never thought about it but the logo does not go very well with this kind of store because of its traditional clothes. i see more of a thirty something year old woman walking into the store, and i think it would have worked better for a quirky boutique for a younger age group.

I agree that logo does not go with the store at all. They for sure need to update there look for comepete with other department stores. Most classy department stores dont have cursive scripts. I think they should take this in consideration and update there look.

I think the actual color is green, not turquoise. The typeface does have a retro feel to it. I think the designers wanted to show that their company carries fashionable clothes; not necessarily clothes that are up-to-date, but clothes that are stylish. I guess it would really help to know exactly what kind of clothes they carry because I've never been in this store before...but this is my guess!

i also agree that the type choice for this logo is not attractive to the eye. ive always looked at it and thought..."ew. stein mart, i dont know whats in there and i never want to know." i actually went into the store the other day with my mom and the clothing and shoppers are usually older women. they come from that "retro" time and maybe they were trying to help those people remember that time and that would encourage them to shop there. go back to the days where they were young and hopefully these clothes will make them feel young again.

very retro look here that is created with the extended cross bars on the "t's" in Stein and Mart. the type is also very curved and fluid while staying up straight and keeping pretty rigid. Also the color used is set to that time and not used very often these days. I'm not sure if it the most appealing logo, or at least for our generation. I personally have no desire to shop there.

Stein Mart's logo is very easy to pick out, even at a glance, you can tell it's Stein Mart because of its very unique typeface. I agree that the logo really has nothing to do with the store. Stein Mart reminds me of a TJ Max. Neither really have specificity in what they sell, I just have heard they are known for good prices.

I agree that the logo doesn't fit what the store is trying to sell. It does however remind me of the old diners. Especially because of the color that it is.

I feel that the logo doesn't fit the style and purpose of what the store is. But it is a fun logo. Maybe some update is needed?
