note it

I am such a list maker. I probably make thousands of lists telling me what I have to do, etc. So when I found these really neat pads I was obviously excited! The typography on the list pads is so classically done and not too overpowering, so that what you fill in is still what is most dominant. The color choice was very classic with just two different shades of blue with a  white background.  I appreciate their sense of hierarchy. For instance, 7 DAYS A WEEK is not only the largest, but in all caps and so is every day of the week, but they are scaled back. Next in the hierarchy, the funny little check boxes for each day that say "survived monday, managed tuesday, back to the grind...." and then last in the hierarchy the quote at the bottom which says "Take it one checkbox at a time" They even have a small Month and Date spot by each day of the week so that you can fill in the actual date. The design, typography, and type placement was really thought out well.

I went shopping this weekend and was showing my roomate the new dress I had got she was like that is so cute what brand is it. I looked at the tag and realised it was typographically well done. I like the use of a subsitution of a cross with the t. I also liked the use of ..... before the brand name it makes an intresting design for such a small little tag.

Waffle House or the gross german restaurant Affle Hous

I love looking at signs that have letters out, and read in different ways. It's always unexpected if they make different words that are in contradiction to what the place is. This design is really clever in highlighting things that would not be good for business owners.

Type from the sole

What a cool idea!!! Putting a small sentence of body copy on the bottom of a shoe for an ad. I love how well this idea relates with the purpose of the ad, Race for the Cure, a marathon to help raise money to fight breast cancer. I also enjoy how well they made the indentions on the sole look like a real shoe, they didn't just place the text horizontally on the shoe, they took the time to show the patterns different patters and creases and that highlight the points of their message quite well.

UNEXPECTED TYPE

Seek and find an interesting example of type that you come across unexpectedly.

Get it Big!

I've always admired graffiti artists. While many times it defaces property, I've always seen some form of beauty in it. It takes a great deal of talent to do what they do. Looking at this one, I see the cool gradation, and the depth created with just spray paint. I can't really read what it says, but to me that doesn't matter. I just enjoy seeing the talent they have.

Wow, so this is actually one of the graffiti's that I could actually read. Most graffiti that I've seen on the street and what not, I've always thought to myself, "What in the heck does that say, and what does it mean?!" But this one is actually a legible one. Graffiti definitely shows art in a different way, in represents the culture and the lifestyle. In this one, the use of positive and negative really stood out to me. That even a very low art, uses commonly used elements of high art. It even slightly reminds me of our self-portrait assignments because it takes the first word ("kill") and puts it in a unique position. Instead of just putting on top of the word, or right above it, the artist puts it in the word making it one unite. Even though the message isn't very nice, it definitely shows the culture while also showing a fun piece of artwork.
